Back again after last year's sold out run, 4X4=8 Musicals features 8 original 10-minute musicals presented on a dinky 4' by 4' stage. These miniscule-musicals feature some of Portland finest writers and composers as well as many of your favorite musical theatre performers. All shows are accompanied by a 4-piece band and will prove more is less!
Eating Raoul – The Musical is an ironic, amoral goof on marriage and the American dream, based on the wicked and perverse 1982 cult classic film by Paul Bartel. Mary and Paul Bland are a square, celibate couple -- she cooks, he collects wine -- completely out of step with the sexual revolution surrounding them in 1960's Los Angeles. Appalled by the "swinger" neighbors in their apartment complex, they inadvertently bop one on the head with Mary's frying pan and become tempted into a kinky life of crime in order to raise the down payment on a small, rustic restaurant far from LA. The soup thickens when they become involved with a partner, Raoul, their swarthy, sexy janitor, who helps them to help dispose of the bodies.
A seamless pairing of March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, acclaimed off-Broadway musicals written nearly a decade apart, Falsettos won 1992 Tony Awards for best book and musical score. It is the jaunty tale of Marvin who leaves his wife and young son to live with another man. His ex-wife marries his psychiatrist, and Marvin ends up alone. Two years later, Marvin is reunited with his lover on the eve of his son's bar mitzvah, just as AIDS is beginning its insidious spread.
The winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical - told by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater through "the most gorgeous Broadway score this decade" (Entertainment Weekly) - SPRING AWAKENING explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with poignancy and passion you will never forget. The landmark musical Spring Awakening is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll that is exhilarating audiences across the nation like no other musical in years. Join Live On Stage and this group of late 19th century German students on their passage as they navigate teenage self-discovery and coming of age anxiety in a powerful celebration of youth and rebellion in the daring, remarkable Spring Awakening

The musical that started a 40-year nonstop cultural phenomenon is back where it is meant to be seen – live on stage! The Rocky Horror Show is a sexy, saucy, tongue-in-cheek musical that is truly iconic with its irresistible hum-along score and cast of quirky characters. It tells the story of a newly engaged couple, Brad and Janet, getting caught in a storm and seeking refuge at the home of a madcap transvestite scientist, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who unveils his latest creation - a muscle man named Rocky Horror. Outrageous when it first burst onto the London scene forty years ago The Rocky Horror Show retains its power to thrill, entertain and provoke audiences around the world.
